Renowned Human Resource Development practitioners unanimously underlined the need to make Pakistani organizations true learning systems in order to secure a competitive advantage. They said it during the first meeting of the Training Forum, Islamabad Chapter entitled 'Organizations as Learning Systems' held at Sustainable Development Policy Institute (SDPI) here. The panelists included Amra Mubashir, Head of Organizational Development, Ufone, Naushad Javaid, Director People Excellence, Telenor, Dr. Sadia Nadeem, Head of the FAST Islamabad Business School and Iftikhar Chaudhry, Director, Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu member firm.
Highlighting various aspects of the concept of learning organizations and its relevance with Pakistan's future growth and development, the panelists stressed the need to view organizational learning in a holistic manner particularly with the involvement and commitment from all levels of the management hierarchy in organizations. They also talked about the advantages of knowledge sharing for competitive growth and institutionalizing learning within organizations. They further highlighted the deep links between learning and cultural forces and stressed that developing a culture of learning in Pakistani organizations was very much doable. They pointed out the necessity of documenting local success stories in the form of case studies so that Pakistan's coming generations can learn and take advantage of exemplary indigenous management practices. The first meeting of the Training Forum was declared a huge learning and networking success and participants eagerly expressed their resolve to make meaningful contributions towards sustainable learning systems in public and corporate sector organizations through regular interactions and other initiatives.
