There is a dire need to connect closely the policy making process and research policy recommendation of the think tanks for a pro-public policy making in the country. This was the crux of a briefing by Dr Abid Q. Suleri for the participants of the 94th national management course for senior civil services officers who visited SDPI here on Thursday.
Dr Suleri briefed about SDPI’s research, Policy Advocacy and
Capacity Building related work. He urged for a wider collaboration between the national policy makers and policy research think tank such as SDPI for impact oriented pro-people polices. He said that SDPI is playing an important role in the country and at the South Asia level in the areas of sustainable development, peace and democracy and people to people relations.
Over 65 senior government officials asked questions regarding research impact of the institute on policy formulation and some other areas. Responding to various questions, Dr Suleri said SDPI being an independent think tank works with various ministries and provides them policy input which has been recognized by them. He said that most of the policy advice to the government is based on the research conducted by the institute. He further clarified that though we worked with the government, we never compromise on people’s rights and always give a pro-people advice to the government. He said that the institute worked with various universities from home and abroad. He said that for our funding and resources, we work with UN agencies and bilateral development agencies. He thanked the top government policy makers for visiting the institute which will provide avenues to work together in the policy arena.
The head of the delegation Muhammad Ismail Qureshi, thanked SDPI for organizing this orientation visit. He was awarded shield from SDPI as recognition of their visit.
